FedEx Ground Managers Join D46 Parents & Staff In Support of Student Enrichment

D46 parents and staff are joined by FedEx Ground employees as volunteers at the Destination ImagiNation tournament this Saturday

This Saturday, FedEx Ground employees and D46 parents and staff will volunteer their time at the Regional Destination ImagiNation (DI) tournament. DI is an extra curricular activity offered in D46 and other schools around the globe. Destination ImagiNation is a not-for-profit program that encourages teams to engage in the creative problem solving process incorporating STEM, the arts, and service learning. Foundation 46 worked with volunteer parents to expand DI to a district-wide program in D46 given the sponsorship support of FedEx Ground in 2012.

The Far North ILDI Regional Tournament will take place on March 2nd at Highland Middle School in Libertyville. Gabe Nalley, Senior Manager at FedEx Ground, Matt Petroskey, Pick Up and Delivery Manager, and D46 staff members, Beth Osterndorf, Melanie Palo, Elisa Speck, and Lisa Wells will act as volunteer appraisers at the tournament.

The volunteer appraisers participated in a training program that prepared them for their roles at the tournament on Saturday. Gabe Nalley will appraise the Science Challenge: Wind Visible. This Challenge required students to study wind energy and explore how it can make kinetic art move. Matt Petroskey will appraise Project Outreach: Real to Reel. This Challenge required teams to identify a community need, design and carry out a project that addressed the need, and then create a movie documenting their project.

Countless D46 parent volunteers have helped make this experience possible for our students. Tina Baldwin, FedEx Ground Operations Administrator and D46 parent, has provided invaluable support to our local DI Team Managers as a Team Manager Consultant. Tina has a professional background in arts education and also serves on the Far North ILDI board of directors. A very special thank you to Tina along with volunteer Team Managers Dale Beutel, Julie Kokkin, Scott Landy, Siobhann Poprawski, Robert Roop, Rajesh Rudraradhya, and Alarik Wright. Volunteer Team Managers also included Prairieview teachers Krista Miller and Lisa Hurley.

Over forty D46 students will be performing at the tournament on Saturday. Please wish our teams luck and check our website next week to find out how they did!
