Blood Drive to be Held in Memory of Grayslake Teen

The Twelve Oaks Foundation will hold the Matt Hupp Memorial Blood Drive Sept. 28.

The Twelve Oaks Foundation will team up with LifeSource for the Matt Hupp Memorial Blood Drive this Saturday at Prairie Crossing Charter School.

The event is slated to take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 28.

Matt was a seventh-grader at St. Gilbert School in Grayslake when he was diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma in 2009. He ultimately lost his battle with the disease.

Matt's parents, Steve and Julie, created the Twelve Oaks Foundation in his memory.

"During his battle, Matt received treatments of blood and platelet transfusions," according to a flier about the blood drive. "Thanks to the generosity of blood donors, Matt and his family were able to continue their fight."

Interested donors can schedule an appointment by calling (877) 543-3768 or visiting www.lifesource.org and searching by sponsor code 942C. Walk-ins are also welcome.
