Consumers Credit Union's Volo Branch To Host Citizenship Workshop

CCU helps offer free assistance to eligible legal permanent residents

Grayslake, IL, May 29, 2012:  Obtaining U.S. Citizenship can be both confusing and intimidating for those who don't know where to begin, much less the right questions to ask. That's why Consumers Credit Union (CCU; $612 Million, Waukegan, IL), is hosting a citizenship workshop at the Member-owned credit union's Volo office.  The workshop will help eligible legal applicants understand the procedure so they can start down the path towards obtaining U.S. citizenship.

The Citizenship workshop is set for Saturday, June 9, 2012.  Consumers Credit Union is hosting the workshop in collaboration with the New American Initiative Program, North Suburbs Collaborative formed by the Fr. Gary Graf Center, HACES, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society and Hanul Family Alliance.

"Consumers Credit Union is very pleased to have the opportunity to help new Americans achieve their dream of U.S. citizenship," said Sean M. Rathjen, CCU President. "The New American Initiative offers eligible applicants useful direction by providing the tools and specific steps required to achieve their citizenship.  This workshop is just one of the ways we can assist those who came to this country seeking a better way of life in their quest to obtain citizenship."

In the last few years, the cost of citizenship applications has sky-rocketed, leaving many eligible legal permanent residents without the opportunity to apply to become citizens. In order to assist eligible legal permanent, Consumers Credit Union developed its Citizenship Loan program.  The New Americans Initiative Collaborative verifies the applicant's eligibility for citizenship, then assists them with the loan application. The credit union offers the loans at a very low fixed rate, with repayment spread over 10 months in order to make the loans as affordable as possible for qualified applicants.
