Financial Help Sought for Victims of Hainesville Townhouse Fire

A special website has been set up to collect donations for the Racho family, whose townhouse was lost to a fire.

It has been just a couple of days since the Racho family of Hainesville lost their townhouse to a fire, but friends and family have already raised more than $10,000 for the Eric and Lieka and their children through the YouCaring free fundraising website.

The Racho family's townhouse on the 400 block of Patriot Drive was struck by a car just after 4 a.m. Oct. 25. Police responded to the area and found the townhouse engulfed in flames, said Grayslake Police Chief Phil Perlini.

A Kenosha man was later charged with two felony counts of driving under the influence and one misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of an accident in connection with the crash, said Perlini.

According to the YouCaring website set up for the Racho family, Eric was at work while Lieka was at home with the couple's three young children.

"Lieka awoke to the screeching of the brakes and felt the impact of the car on their home," according to the website.

Lieka and the children were able to get out of the house safely "with just the pajamas they were wearing, and the family doesn't have insurance to cover their personal belongings," according to the site.

Friends and family set a fundraising goal of $5,000 on the YouCaring website. As of Sunday night, $10,179 had been raised. If you'd like to contribute, visit the website here.

A Facebook page, Racho Family Rebuild, has also been set up.
