Mock Elections Held at Sally Potter School – With the Same Results

Students at Sally Potter School in Lake Forest recently held a mock Presidential election complete with the campaigning and the debate. See who the students elected.

It was difficult for adults or children to ignore the Presidential election this year, so students at Sally Potter School in Lake Forest held their own mock presidential election.  The students campaigned throughout the building and made campaign posters to display in the building. They even held a Presidential debate that discussed many of the important national topics.

Josh Deacklen ran as President Obama and Riley Walters ran as Senator Romney. Lauren Boucher was selected to moderate the Presidential debate that was attended by the entire student body.

The students debated tax issues, education, healthcare, defense and immigration. The “candidates” were very well prepared with their platform for each topic for the debate and performed very professionally.

Voting was held school-wide and was done electronically during the student lunch period with fellow students serving as election judges. Staff was also allowed to vote.

The final count was 114 votes cast and the winner, by a landslide, was President Obama. Coincidentally, four years ago the students held a mock election with a similar format and the winner was also President Obama.
