Grayslake Adds iPads for Youth; Hires New Teen Services Librarian

Grayslake children and teens could benefit from two new recent additions at the Grayslake Public Library.

The library purchased four iPads “loaded with educational apps” for its youth area. A contribution by the Grayslake Library Foundation made the purchase possible, according to a Grayslake Public Library press release.

The iPads are meant to provide:

  •  A multi-sensory tool for engaging children in a creative environment
  • Interactive and collaborative play, promoting an enjoyment of learning  
  • Touch-screen technology allowing children to hear and manipulate letter sounds for learning and to develop fine motor skills

“Having iPads available at the library loaded with educational apps provides parents the opportunity to help their children navigate through the digital world with positive and developmentally appropriate technology,” according to the news release.

The Grayslake Public Library recently hired Lauren Hilty as the new Teen Services Librarian.  

Hilty previously worked at the circulation desk and was well known for her creative “tape” animals.  She is planning some new and exciting drop-in and weekend teen programs.
