Summer Opportunities for Teachers at University Center

Teachers can spend part of the summer at a literacy conference or taking courses for a middle school endorsement at University Center.

Teachers who want to spend part of their summer strengthening their professional skills can choose from several special opportunities at the University Center of Lake County. Northern Illinois University College of Education will run their 39th Annual Summer Literacy Conference, “Closing the Gaps:  Reading and Writing Connections for Bilingual Learners” at the University Center of Lake County in Grayslake on June 19-22.  Those attending the conference have the option of earning up to 27 CPDUs or registering in a concurrent graduate credit course for an additional fee.

Teachers who would like to take the two pedagogy courses required for a Middle School Endorsement have two choices this summer.  University of Illinois at Chicago will run both courses for eight weeks from June 11 through August 3 in a fully online format.  The courses are offered for undergraduate and graduate credit and the registration deadline is May 24, 2012.

In addition, Southern Illinois University Carbondale will run both courses at the University Center facility in Grayslake.  CI 462 - Middle and Junior High School Programs will run on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 4:30 – 9:30 pm from June 4 through June 27.  CI 473 - Teaching in Middle Level Schools will follow on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:30 – 9:30 pm from July 5 through July 31.  Both courses are offered for undergraduate and graduate credit and registration is open until the courses begin.
