Frigid Christmas Eve; More Snow Possible Christmas Morning

Area residents could wake Christmas morning to more snow.

Baby, it's cold outside.

Really cold.

The temperature just after 9 a.m. on Christmas Eve morning was a frigid 2 degrees. Add in the wind chill values Tuesday and that could feel more like -8 at its coldest point, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow could follow the cold temperatures and provide a fresh blanket of snow to wake up to on Christmas morning. Snow is expected mainly after 1 a.m. in Grayslake with new snow accumulation of one to three inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Blowing snow could make for hazardous driving conditions during the early morning hours, according to the NWS.  On Christmas Day, more snow could fall before 1 p.m. and then again after 4 p.m. with new snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. A high of 26 degrees is in the forecast.

Wind gusts could reach as high as 25 mph during the day on Wednesday, according to the NWS.
