What's the Best Advice Dad Ever Gave You?

In honor of Father's Day, the Grayslake Patch asked readers on Facebook to share the best advice their father ever gave them.

Motherly advice is often driven by emotion and the need to protect, while lessons handed down from dad tend to be more straightforward and practical, applying to the challenges of everyday life, and sticking with you when you need it most.

For Father's Day, our Grayslake Patch Facebook readers shared some of the best advice they have received from their dads over the years. Hey dad! We're still using it!

Always think positively!

I never heard my dad curse and never saw him drink any alcohol. He didn't have to say anything about those things, he just led by example...

The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

1) Take care of your car and it will take care of you. 2) You appreciate things more if you work hard and earn them rather than being handed them...and I absolutely still find it useful!

Always stand on your principles even if others don't and no matter what it costs you. If you tell someone you are going to do something, do it!

Bend with the wind as the trees do or you will fall over!

Use your brain!

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! (He always tells me this when life seems to pour on the bad). It reminds me to take things one small piece at a time, and that eventually this too shall all pass.
