GCHS Writers Week

GCHS Writers Week 2013

I wasn't all that excited about GCHS Writers Week in the beginning. Actually, I wasn't all that excited about GCHS Writers Week ever. I, myself, am a writer, so one would think that I would be excited, but I write movies and films; Writers Week was mostly authors. I was not very impressed or interested in the authors or journalists, but the comedians and poets were quite exciting. I didn't get to see the musicians, but I heard great things about them! Anyways, my whole view on Writers Week changed when I saw Derrick Brown. I encourage everyone to listen to his poems and work. Derrick Brown's view on life is extraordinary. I can honestly say that I was TRULY inspired by him. Derrick has so much passion for what he does, and he performs in such a unique way. His poems are so spectacular; I felt like I was in a movie when I was watching him perform. He is also super funny! Derrick is just so deep and emotionally intelligent... Brilliant, really. He was by far my favorite.

My other favorite, even though he was not a special guest for Writers Week, was GCHS's own teacher Mr. Carl Hauck. Mr. Hauck opened for comedian Nate Weatherup, who by the way was an outstanding comedian! Very funny man. Mr. Hauck played guitar and sang a beautiful song- his own original piece. He told us that the song he performed was rejected by others in the music world. WHAT?! I honestly could not believe this. His song was PERFECT. I am serious when I say that I wish everyone in the whole world could hear that song! Props to you, Mr. Hauck, because you are truly inspiring... An absolutely AMAZING musician. He also has so much passion, and it is clear to us. He made me want to learn that song on my own guitar!

Thank you, GCHS Writers Week, for inspiring some people. It was a fun experience, and we should do it again next year! And have Mr. Hauck play more songs!! :D
