Free Workshop on Becoming a Military Friendly Ministry, Sept. 23

The Lake-McHenry Veterans and Family Services program is offering a free workshop to clergy and laity interested in understanding and learning how to best support current service members, including Guard and Reserve, veterans and their families.  The workshop, Becoming a Military Friendly Ministry, will take place on Friday, September 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. The event includes a free lunch. It will take place at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, 3001 Green Bay Road, Bourke Hall (Building 4), in North Chicago. Please register by September 13 by contacting Jill Harrison at: Jharrison@lakecountyil.gov or (847) 377-7651.

For Iraq and Afghanistan service members, coming home can be a long process filled with physical, psychological, social and spiritual roadblocks to a new stability in the civilian world. A common place where needs are often expressed is within faith-based communities and so it is important that congregations and other organizations understand the specific culture and needs of this population.
