Mental Health Program Moves from Round Lake Park to Libertyville

The Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center is moving its Outpatient Mental Health Adult Services program in Round Lake Park to a larger, renovated building near Libertyville. The program, located in leased space at the Avon Township building, 423 E. Washington St. in Round Lake Park, will close on April 10 and begin operations on April 15 at 18698 Peterson Road near Libertyville.  In addition to mental health services, this site will also provide a primary care component in the near future.

“People with serious mental illness are dying 20 to 25 years earlier than the general population due to physical health problems such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension, tobacco-related disease and heart disease,” said Tony Beltran, the Health Department’s Executive Director. “The integration of primary care and behavioral health services at our Libertyville facility will address this health disparity. Coordination of care can save lives.”

The Round Lake Park program currently consists of 15 clinical and support staff providing counseling and psychiatric medication management services to 1,200 patients.  The Round Lake Park space included 2,300 square feet, while the renovated building, which sits on a 4.5-acre parcel, consists of 5,000 square feet of space. In addition to primary care services, patients will have access to nutrition information, tobacco cessation services and information about how to apply for medical benefits at the new site.

“Bringing primary care and behavioral health services under one roof with the purpose of treating the patient holistically is being universally accepted as a best practice across the country,” said Dr. Ted Testa, the Health Department’s Behavioral Health Services Director.  “We intend for the Libertyville location to be a showcase for this change.”

The Health Department’s Outpatient Mental Health Adult Services has an additional location at 3010 Grand Avenue in Waukegan.  This program will continue to serve patients at its present location.
