Come Hungry To The Grayslake Lions Club Steer Roast At Middle School Sunday

The Grayslake Lions Club is hosting its 49th Annual Steer Roast at Grayslake Middle School tomorrow. Proceeds will benefit the blind, hearing restoration and other community assistance programs.

For the 49th year, the will prepare a slow-roasted beef dinner on Sunday, Sept. 9 at Grayslake Middle School, 440 North Barron Blvd. (Route 83), with meal service beginning at noon and concluding at 5 p.m.

The meal, including beef roasted 18 hours, corn on the cob, baked potato, fresh tomatoes, onions, dinner roll and butter is all-you-can-eat. Milk, coffee and desserts of pies, brownies and other baked goods is included. Soft drinks can be purchased separately.

The cost is $12 for adults (ages 12-61); $11 for seniors (62 and up); and $6 for children (ages 5 through 11). Younger children are admitted free. Either eat-in or take-out is available.

All proceeds from the popular event are dedicated to sight conservation and blind activities, Community Assistance Programs, and hearing restoration and conservation activities in the Grayslake area.

Preparations for the dinner start at about 6 p.m. Saturday, when the charcoal roasting of 1,200 pounds of beef using a 10-foot long spit begins, and continues through the night on the south side of the school building. The Grayslake Lions Club members tending the beef welcome visitors.

In conjunction with the Steer Roast and in partnership with the Lions of Illinois Foundation, the Grayslake Lions will offer free hearing test screening at the Middle School between noon and 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9. No meal purchase is necessary.

Tickets may be purchased prior to Sunday by calling (847) 223-5222. Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $9 for seniors, a savings of $2.
