Woman Suffers Broken Leg In Boat Crash

A boat ended up landing on the bow of a pontoon boat Saturday in Fox Lake. The driver was charged with Operating Under the Infleunce ((OUI).

A speed boat crashed into a pontoon boat on Saturday, May 26 at approximately 9:40 p.m. Lake County Sheriff's Marine Deputies were called to Myers Bay in Fox Lake for a boating accident involving injuries.  

There were two boats involved in the crash, according to a release from the sheriff's office. A 2000 Glastron Carson watercraft operated by Brian D. Yost, 36, of the 1800 block ofSherman Blvd, Crystal Lake, collided with a pontoon boat on the waters of MyersBay. The collision resulted in the Glastron watercraft driving over the front bow of the pontoon boat. 

Yost had several passengers on board his vessel. There were six people on board the pontoon boat. A female passenger of the pontoon, 37 years of age, was thrown into the water as a result of the collision.

She was pulled from the lake by Marine Deputy Rich Free and Deputy Mike Rompala prior to rescue arriving. The victim suffered severe facial lacerations as well as a broken leg. She was transported by Fox Lake Fire and Rescue to Condell Advocate in Libertyville. She was the only person who required medical transport. 

No other people were thrown into the water.  All occupants of the boats are accounted for.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) assisted the Marine Unit in the accident investigation.  The DNR will be handling the reconstruction portion of the accident, according to Sgt. Lou Kent. 

Yost was charged with Operating Under the Influence (OUI) and was brought to Condell by LCSO Marine Deputies for blood and urine tests. 

The investigation is ongoing.
