Burglaries Reported in Estates of Eastlake Subdivision

Another Grayslake neighborhood reports incidents of break-ins while residents are at home.

Grayslake Police officers were called to the Estates of Eastlake subdivision yesterday March 7 for reports of home burglaries. These criminals apparently are not waiting until the homeowners are gone for the day; instead, they try to find an open door and just walk right in even when the residents are still at home.

Police are investigating the reports, but are not providing many details at this point due to the ongoing investigation, said Cmdr. Matt McCutcheon of the Grayslake Police Department. He did confirm that the following police reports had been filed.

"On March 7 at 6 a.m., a homeowner in the 800 block of Langley Court reported that between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m., someone entered the residence through the unlocked rear sliding glass doors and removed some items," McCutcheon said.

Police received the call after just after 6 a.m. No injuries were reported, he said. There were two reports filed yesterday from this neighborhood, along Atkinson Road.

"Also on the 7th before 11 a.m., police responded to another residence in the 800 block of Langley Court," McCutcheon said. "The homeowner reported that she believed that unknown persons attempted to gain entry into that residence through the unlocked sliding rear door. The resident in this incident found that her screen door had been slit, but it is believed that no one entered the home."

Similar incidents had taken place last month in the Chesapeake Farms subdivision in Grayslake, and also in various neighborhoods in Libertyville. Police believe it is a crime of opportunity.

"My best advice is to lock your doors," McCutcheon said. "Lock your doors. Lock your doors. Don't leave valuables in your car. Don't leave your car unlocked. Don't leave your house unlocked. Lock your doors. I can't stress it enough."
