UPDATE: Car-vs-Train Accident Reported at Routes 83, 137

Metra is reporting delays at the site.

Update, 3:15 p.m.: One person was injured in a freight train-vs-car accident at Routes 83 and 137, the Daily Herald is reporting.

According to the Daily Herald, the car was turning left onto Route 83 from Route 137 when it collided with the train.

Original story, 2:51 p.m.: Grayslake Patch is looking into an apparent freight train-vs-car accident that occurred at Routes 83 and 137.

Patch received a dispatch alert about the accident just before 2 p.m. The Lake & McHenry County's FD Incidents Facebook page has also reported the accident.

All lanes are closed on Route 120 at Route 83 "due to a stalled train," and the intersection of 83 and 137 is closed "as a result of a crash," according to Lake County PASSAGE. 

According to the Metra website, trains have been delayed in the area, on the Milwaukee District/North Line.

  • "Train No. 2138, scheduled to depart Grayslake at 1:58 p.m. and arrive Chicago at 3:22 p.m., will be delayed in departure due to freight train interference. This train is currently 15 minutes behind schedule. Estimated time of delay is unknown."
  • "Train No. 2117, scheduled to arrived Fox Lake at 2:12 p.m., is stopped in the vicinity of Grayslake due to a freight train striking a vehicle. This train is currently 17 minutes behind schedule. Estimated time of delay is unknown."
