Funeral Services Set for Officer Killed in Off-Duty Crash

Funeral services have been set for a police officer who was killed in a single-vehicle, off-duty crash early Saturday in Gurnee. 

A visitation for Jason J. Mueller, 27, will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway in Palatine. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at All Saints Lutheran Church, 630 S. Quentin Road in Palatine. 

The Interment and Military Honors will follow the funeral at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, 1185 Algonquin Road in Palatine, according to his obituary

Mueller worked as a police officer with the Waukegan Police Department. He served two tours of duty in Iraq and one in Afghanistan as a Ranger in the U.S. Army, according to his obituary. 

He is survived by his wife, Katie, and daughter, Ava.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: A Waukegan police officer from Grayslake died in a single-vehicle, off-duty crash early Saturday in Gurnee, according to the Daily Herald. 

Officer Jason J. Mueller, 27, was traveling west in a 2007 Nissan Xterra sport utility vehicle on Washington Street when he traveled into a grassy median and drove into the eastbound lanes of traffic. He then traveled off the road and crashed into a utility police, the Daily Herald reports.

The crash occurred near Washington Street and Route 45 at about 2:20 a.m. Saturday, according to My Fox Chicago. Mueller was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he later died, according to My Fox Chicago. 

Mueller was hired by the Waukegan Police Department in September 2013 and served as an Army Ranger in U.S. Army from February of 2006 until August 2012,according to WGN TV.
