Grayslake Couple Rescued from Fox River After Pontoon Boat Nearly Goes Over Dam

A couple from Grayslake was rescued Wednesday afternoon from the Fox River after their pontoon boat stalled and nearly went over the Algonquin Dam, according to the Northwest Herald.

Steve and Grace Leseth were planning to dock at Port Edward Restaurant in Algonquin for lunch when their engine stalled. The two were able to hold onto the Algonquin Road bridge to prevent their boat from going over the dam, according to the Northwest Herald.

Rescuers were called to the scene at 12:15 p.m., according to an Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District press release.

Rescuers found the boat stuck under the bridge when they arrived. Firefighters dropped ropes to the boat and secured it in place.

Rescuers on the Fire District Boat were able to get Steve and Grace Leseth — and their dog — safely off the boat and drop them off at a nearby pier, according to the news release and media reports.

No one was injured in the incident.
