Update: Landscaper OK After Close Call With Lightning

Grayslake Fire dept. received call this morning.

Update, 10:02 a.m.

The landscaper who had a close call with lightning this morning has recovered, according to George Markoutsas, director of marketing for Landscape Concepts Management.

Markoutsas said the man did not want his name released.

"He was a little disoriented and a little sore. He didn't even want to go to the hospital, but we demanded that he go," Markoutsas said.

He said the landscaper was opening a door to one of the buildings at the company when lightning struck. A lightning rod diffused most of the strike.

"He was not directly struck by lightning, just some residual, more like an electric shock," Markoutsas said. "He was not struck, because normally you see signs of lightning strike as it enters one way and leaves another way."

"Lightning strikes indiscrimately," Markoutsas said.

8:30 a.m.

The Grayslake Fire Department responded to a call of a man struck by lightning this morning.

Battalion Chief Joris Lillge said the fire department received the call at 5:42 a.m.

“We received the call that he was struck but we’re still not sure that was the case,” Lillge said.

Lillge said paramedics transported the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center and he was in good condition.

The man was a worker at Landscape Concepts Management, 31745 Alleghany Rd., in Grayslake.

The company would not release any information on the incident, but may be responding later today. Check Grayslake Patch for an update.
