Grayslake Man Killed in Freight Train Accident

The man who was killed in Monday's accident has been identified as Yunjie Liu, 57, of Grayslake.

A 57-year-old Grayslake man was killed Monday after being hit by a freight train, according to a Grayslake Police Department press release. 

The man was walking south along the train tracks in Grayslake near the crossing near North Lake Street and Hillside Avenue when police said he stepped in front of a northbound CN freight train at 8:12 a.m.

The man has been identified as Yunjie Liu. His body was found lying along the south side of the tracks about 75 feet south of Lake Street, according to the news release. 

Train traffic in the area was halted or otherwise re-routed during the day Monday. The accident occurred on the Metra North Central line, which operates on the same tracks as the freight train, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The Grayslake Police Department requested assistance from the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team in investigating the incident Monday. The Lake County Coroner was also at the scene of the accident Monday.

The Round Lake Area Mobile Eye also assisted the Grayslake Police Department in traffic direction at the railroad crossings as Lake Street and Center Street were blocked by the train.
