Grayslake Police Chief Charged With DUI

Grayslake Police Chief Matt McCutcheon was reportedly cited for DUI and being armed while intoxicated, according to media reports. Mayor Rhett Taylor confirmed that an investigation into the incident is taking place.

Grayslake Police Chief Matt McCutcheon was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and being armed while intoxicated following a head-on crash in Kenosha County, Wisc. Friday.

McCutcheon was off-duty at the time of the incident. Grayslake village officials have released a statement that they are investigating the matter.

McCutcheon, 46, of Grayslake was charged following a head-on crash with another vehicle, according to the Lake County News Sun. The newspaper reported that no on was injured in the crash and that McCutcheon was charged after refusing to take sobriety tests. The incident occurred Friday at 9:45 p.m. near County Highway C and Route 45.

Today at 9:16 a.m., Grayslake Mayor Rhett Taylor issued a statement saying: "The Police Chief informed us that he was in a car accident on March 30th while off-duty and in Wisconsin and that he received citations related to the incident. Since that point the Village has been conducting an investigation of the matter."

The statement went on to say: "If the investigation confirms the media reports, this would constitute unacceptable conduct for an individual in the position of Grayslake Police Chief. No further comments can be made pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation."

. He had served as interim chief since the summer of 2010 when former Chief Larry Herzog retired.

The decision to name McCutcheon chief was unanimous by the Grayslake Village Board.

The Grayslake Village Board has called a special executive session meeting Thursday night to discuss personnel matters, although it did not specify the exact topic. The meeting notice was sent out Tuesday.
