Lake Villa Accident Victim Identified

An 18-year-old Lindenhurst man was killed early Friday morning when the vehicle he was driving crashed and landed in Lake Miltmore in Lake Villa.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of the driver killed early Friday morning when his vehicle hit a boat lift then landed in Lake Miltmore in Lake Villa.

The victim is Nicholas Bonilla, 18, of Lindenhurst, reported the Lake County News-Sun.

Surviving passenger Angel B. Flores, 18, of Lindenhurst, was pulled from the vehicle by a Lake County Sheriff's deputy.

According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, a Pontiac Aztek driven by Bonilla was traveling eastbound on Engle Drive at 1:52 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, when it crossed Nathan Hale Drive, drove approximately 200 feet through a yard, struck a boat lift, then landed upside down about 50 feet into Lake Miltmore.

Four Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and members of the Lake Villa Dive Team entered the water in an attempt to rescue the vehicle's trapped occupants.

Bonilla and Flores were transported to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville. Bonilla was later pronounced dead. The coroner determined cause of death was drowning, reported the Daily Herald.

Bonilla was arrested July 29 by Gurnee police and charged with two counts of felony burglary, according to the Daily Herald.

The accident investigation will continue to determine if there were any contributing factors to the accident, stated a sheriff's office press release.
