Man Charged With Stealing Over $80K from Youth Baseball League

A Grayslake man who served as the treasurer of a Gurnee youth baseball league was arrested Monday for stealing more than $80,600 from league and has been charged with theft, according to the Chicago Tribune. 

Donald Schaefer is accused of using the baseball league's accounts to write checks to himself during his time as the league's treasurer between 2007 and 2012, according to the article. The league has also filed a civil lawsuit seeking reimbursement of the funds as well as for "costs incurred for accounting, legal services and an unspecified amount of punitive damages," according to the Chicago Tribune.
