UPDATE: Pedestrian Killed on Union Pacific Northwest Tracks

The incident happened Sunday, June 17 around 11:15 a.m.

UPDATE 8:55 a.m.:

The Lake County Coroner reports that the deceased has not yet been identified.

The cause of death has been confirmed as multiple traumatic injuries. The coroner's office says it's too early to say if the incident was a suicide or accidental.

A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a Metra Train on Father's Day.

It happened around 11:15 a.m. at Cuba Road and Route 14 along the Union Pacific Northwest line, between the Fox River Grove and Barrington Metra Stations.

Metra officials say the incident also damaged the train upon impact, causing an extremely long delay for passengers.

"The train was stopped for quite a long time partially because the train itself was damaged in the incident. The passengers were taken off and put on another train, but that wasn't for at least a couple of hours," a spokesperson said.

It's unclear at the time if the death was accidental or a suicide. Patch will have updates to this story as they become available.

A person died, and I read about how the delay was "extremely long for the passengers". I think we are becoming more and more a uncompassinate society. Thank you Kelly, and I also give my prayers to the family who lost someone on Father's Day.

Monica, compassion has nothing to do with time. It took hours to fix, that is a long delay. If it had been a few minutes, that would be a short delay. Instead of looking for an excuse to complain about society, use common sense. That's what it's there for.

Kelly, Monica: thank you for putting this in perspective. My thoughts are with the family of the deceased - and my heart goes out to the train driver, who must have seen everything and been unable to stop it.

Blah blah blah. Oh poor me, I'll be late for my manicure. Yeah, some guy kills himself and it's SOOOOO inconvenient. For all the people complaining about the delay, screw off. Walk to where you need to go, you could most likely use the exercise. Good job, Metra, for handing out water, that was pretty cool. :)
