Update: The person killed was a man, born in 1942 and thus approximately age 70, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller. The man was walking on or near the tracks, he said, and may have crossed the tracks. As of Saturday afternoon, his next of kin had not been found to notify them.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office may rule on the cause of death early in the coming week.
At 10:30 p.m. Friday night, Metra police were still on the scene of a collision between a train and a pedestrian.
Metra Spokesman Tom Miller confirmed the pedestrian was killed. He did not have the gender or age of the person or any other information.
The 4153 Milwaukee Road North line train was headed outbound toward Fox Lake, and passengers on the train were delayed about one and a half hours.
Metra police parked their cars near the tracks about one block north of the station, near townhouses on both sides of the tracks.
Patch will update as we obtain further details.
