Police revealed Wednesday that the body found Tuesday afternoon along North Milwaukee Avenue was that of Anne Stroll, who was reported missing Dec. 2.

"Autopsy findings reveal the cause of death to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, which is consistent with the Lake County Sheriff's Office investigation," said Sgt. Sara Balmes, public information officer for the Sheriff's Office.

Police located Stroll's body at about 2 p.m. Tuesday while conducting a search for her on the 32000 block of North Milwaukee Avenue.

Anne was reported missing by her husband, Michael, after she didn't return home from a bike ride Dec. 2.

"She usually rides around the neighborhood and is back within a half hour," said Michael.

Verizon, he said, was able to ping Anne's phone, indicating that the phone was likely on the south side of Independence Grove on one of the trails within 200 yards of Route 137.

When Anne didn't return home, Michael said he called 911. Gurnee police and fire officials, bloodhounds, and Lake County Forest Preserves rangers searched Independence Grove Monday night and again Tuesday morning. A helicopter with infrared was also involved in the search.

Gurnee Police Cmdr. William Meyer indicated early Tuesday afternoon that nothing had been found.

I don't usually comment, but what an awful thing to say. She may have sought help and sometimes help isn't enough. Yes, her family will suffer. My guess would be they might have already been suffering. Your comment is just cold and inconsiderate.

I agree MB..........How terribly insensitive and cruel!! People that have mental health issues and commit suicide sometimes aren't able to ask for help for they are too ill to do so and can't think right. Maybe she did get help. Her and her family may have been suffering for a long time. Who knows. My heart breaks for this family. How sad!
