Police Investigating Cause of Crash that Resulted in Townhouse Fire

The crash occurred early Friday morning in Hainesville.

Police are investigating the cause of a Friday morning crash that resulted in a fire at a Hainesville townhouse.

Grayslake Police Chief Phil Perlini said the Grayslake/Hainesville Police Department received a 911 hang-up call from the 400 block of North Patriot Drive in Hainesville at 4:09 a.m. Friday. Police responded to the area and found that a vehicle had crashed into the northwest side of a townhouse. The home was engulfed in flames, Perlini said.

"Police officers did not observe any occupants in the vehicle, and evacuated the townhouse and nearby residences," said Perlini. "Several area fire departments and utility companies responded and helped extinguish the fire."

Both Grayslake Police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance team are investigating the cause of the crash. Perlini noted that police are speaking with a 32-year-old man who was located near the scene several hours later. The man was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville to be treated for hypothermia symptoms.

"The subject has not been charged and the incident is still pending further investigation," said Perlini.

Hainesville Road was closed for about four hours as crews tended to the scene.
