Police: Man Taken Into Custody; Lockdown Lifted at Schools

A suicidal man armed with a rifle had locked himself in his Lake Villa home, police said.

Lake Villa Police have taken into custody a man who had locked himself in his home.

Police Chief Ron Roth said police made contact with the man by phone "and were able to talk him out of the home unarmed."

"The person was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for an evaluation by medical staff," said Roth. "The loaded rifle and other assorted weapons were removed from the home."

Roth said police responded to the 200 block of Burnette at about 11 a.m. Tuesday on a report of a suicidal man armed with a rifle.

"The immediate area was vacated and secured by officers with assistance from the Lake County Sheriff's Office and surrounding agencies," said Roth. He noted that charges could be pending with the Lake County State's Attorney's Office.

As a precaution, Pleviak, Palombi Middle and Prince of Peace Schools were placed on lockdown. That lockdown was lifted once the man was in custody.

"Chief Ron Roth would like to express his gratitude to surrounding agencies for their assistance and Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran, along with his tactical team, for assisting in bringing this situation to a swift closure," according to a press release from the Lake Villa Police Department.
