Police Officer From Grayslake Dies in Crash

A 27-year-old Grayslake man died in a crash early Saturday in Gurnee.

A Waukegan police officer from Grayslake died in a single-vehicle, off-duty crash early Saturday in Gurnee, according to the Daily Herald. 

Officer Jason J. Mueller, 27, was traveling west in a 2007 Nissan Xterra sport utility vehicle on Washington Street when he traveled into a grassy median and drove into the eastbound lanes of traffic. He then traveled off the road and crashed into a utility police, the Daily Herald reports. 

The crash occurred near Washington Street and Route 45 at about 2:20 a.m. Saturday, according to My Fox Chicago. Mueller was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he later died, according to My Fox Chicago.

Mueller was hired by the Waukegan Police Department in September 2013 and served as an Army Ranger in U.S. Army from February of 2006 until August 2012, according to WGN TV. 

Mueller leaves behind a wife, Katie, and young daughter, Ava, according to WGN TV.
