Round Lake Park Tops Safest Cities List

Do you think Grayslake should have made this list?

While Grayslake did not make a recent list ranking the top 50 safest cities in Illinois, nearby Round Lake Park did, according to a Safewise.com report

The top 50 safest cities list by Safewise.com used the recent FBI Crime Report along with its own independent research to compile its list. To make the list, a city had to have a population of over 5,000 as of 2012, according to a Safewise.com report.

"We analyze the number of violent crimes (aggravated assault, forcible rape, murder, robbery) and property crimes (arson, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft) and then calculate the chance of these crimes happening out of 1,000 in order to level the playing field for the different populations of each city," according to the SafeWise Report.

Round Lake Park was listed as the safest town in Illinois with 0 violent crimes happening per 1,000 and 1.06 property crimes happening per 1,000, according to Safewise.com.

"No doubt Round Lake Park’s stellar safety record is thanks to its dedicated police force, several members of which recently received honors for service and going above and beyond the call of duty. Officers were recognized for saving the lives of citizens, coming to the aid of a neighboring police agency, community outreach and operations resulting in over 200 narcotic arrests over three years. "
Mundelein also made the list as the 50th safest city, according to Safewise.
