UPDATE: 12 Patients Released From Advocate Condell, Two Critical at Lutheran General

Update, 1:07 p.m. Sunday: Two people—both minors—are still in critical condition at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital following Friday's crash on I-94 in Gurnee, the Daily Herald reported.

Twelve people were released from Advocate Condell in Libertyville, according to the Daily Herald, and another was to be released Saturday. A patient who was in critical condition was upgraded to fair condition, the Daily Herald reported.

Update, 11:10 p.m.: 
Illinois State Police are still investigating a crash that occurred Friday morning on I-94 just north of Washington Street, near Six Flags Great America.

Police said six vehicles were involved in the accident, including a Western Star semi-truck, Jeep Cherokee, Honda Civic, Toyota Prius, Honda Pilot and Ford Explorer. 

"According to the preliminary traffic crash (investigation), five vehicles were stopped in traffic in the far two right lanes," according to Illinois State Police spokesman Michelle Kistulinec. "The Western Star semi-truck was unable to reduce speed sufficiently, striking the rear of the Jeep Cherokee and the Honda Civic, causing a chain reaction."

Sixteen patients were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, said spokeswoman Sarah Toomey. 

"Three patients were in critical condition. Two of those were transferred via Flight for Life to Advocate Lutheran General. One critical patient is still here," said Toomey. 

She added that two patients remain in serious condition, while 11 others are in good condition.

Kistulinec said all of the individuals were wearing their seat belts.

Update, 6:10 p.m.: 
crash on I-94 was allegedly the result of a chain reaction when a semitrailer truck was unable to stop to avoid hitting two vehicles in the far right two lanes near Six Flags Great America, the Daily Herald reported.

The crash involved two passenger vehicles, the semitrailer truck and three sport-utility vehicles, according to the Daily Herald.

Sixteen patients were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, said spokeswoman Sarah Toomey. 

"Three patients were in critical condition. Two of those were transferred via Flight for Life to Advocate Lutheran General. One critical patient is still here," said Toomey. 

She added that two patients remain in serious condition, while 11 others are in good condition.

Update, 2 p.m.:
Traffic on I-94 was backed up to Route 137 as of 1:30 p.m. due to an earlier accident that occurred near Six Flags Great America on I-94.

Dispatch alerts revealed that 16 victims were transported from the scene of the accident, which involved several vehicles and a semi.

Two of those victims were airlifted from Advocate Condell Medical Center via Flight for Life, according to a dispatch alert.

Original story: Lake County Passage is reporting that two lanes are blocked due to a crash on northbound I-94 near Grand Avenue

According to a dispatch alert, six ambulances have responded to a rollover accident involving a semi and two vehicles with entrapment near I-94 and Milwaukee Avenue in Gurnee. The dispatch alert states that 13 patients are being transported.
