Police: Suicidal Man Locked Himself in Home with Rifle

Update, 2:48 p.m.: 
The lockdown at the Lake Villa schools has been lifted.

According to a dispatch alert, a person is now in custody.

Lake Villa District 41 shared this update on the district website:

"Please be advised that the lockdown is lifted and the suspect is in police custody. Please also note that all schools will be released at their regular scheduled time."

Update, 2:40 p.m.: Lake Villa Police confirmed Tuesday afternoon that they are dealing with a suicidal man who locked himself in his home on the 200 block of Burnette.

Police Chief Ron Roth said the man is armed with a rifle. 

"Police personnel are currently attempting to talk the distraught person out of their home," said Roth. "The immediate area has been vacated and secured by officers, with assistance from the Lake County Sheriff's Office and surrounding agencies."

As a precaution, Pleviak, Palombi and Prince of Peace Schools were instructed to go on lockdown, Roth said.

Original story: Two Lake Villa schools are on lockdown due to reports of an individual in the area with a rifle.

According to a dispatch alert, police are responding to a hostage/barricade/terrorist (HBT) incident on the 200 block of Burnett in Lake Villa. 

Lake Villa District 41 posted the following note on the district's website:

"Pleviak received a phone call from the Lake Villa Police Department notifying them of a person in the area with a rifle. We have put Pleviak School and Palombi School on a precautionary lockdown. There is a Lake Villa policeman on site at Pleviak. No one can leave or enter the buildings. Please do not come to the schools. We will keep updating the website as we receive information."
