Two Men Facing Drug Charges in Connection With Craigslist Ad

The men were arrested in Fox Lake.

Two men are facing felony drug charges after police received a tip regarding Hydrocodone pills being sold on Craiglist and subsequently set up a meeting with the men to buy the drugs.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office special investigations unit received a tip Dec. 30 from the McHenry County Police Department regarding a Craigslist ad selling 120 Hydrocodone pills for $360, according a press release from Lake County Sgt. Sara Balmes.

Lake County detectives met Thomas A. Brown, 20, of the 200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in Lake Villa and Daniel D. Swan, 22, of the 200 block of East Grand Avenue in Fox Lake at Walgreens, 61 N. Route 12 in Fox Lake, to buy the pills, Balmes said. 

"Brown and Swan were surrounded and Brown rammed the red 1999 Nissan minivan he was operating into an unmarked squad car in an attempt to evade arrest," Balmes wrote in the press release. "The Nissan was stopped a short time later and Brown resisted arrest."

Brown was charged with: criminal damage to government supported property, a Class 3 felony; unlawful possession of a lookalike substance, a Class C misdemeanor; unlawful possession of a lookalike substance with intent to deliver, a Class 3 felony; unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony; resisting a peace officer, a Class A misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor; driving wile license suspended, a Class A misdemeanor; aggravated reckless driving, a Class 4 felony; having a loud muffler; operating an uninsured motor vehicle; and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Balmes said.

Brown's bond was set at $25,000 pending a Jan. 7 court date.

Swan was charged with unlawful possession of a lookalike substance, a Class C misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of a lookalike substance with intent to deliver, a Class 3 felony, Balmes said. Swan's bond was set at $5,000 pending a Jan. 29 court date.
