Avon Township Still Seeking Clerk Candidates

Interested individuals still have a few days to apply to be Avon Township's new clerk.

The deadline to apply is June 28. The term is set to expire on May 15, 2017.

Avon Township Trustee Chris Larson said the board is required by the state to fill any open position within 60 days of the vacancy occurring. Avon Strong candidate Patricia A. Smart was elected to the clerk position in April but resigned due to personal reasons, Larson said. Smart could not be reached for comment regarding the resignation.

Application packets for the position became available June 12 and can be submitted until 3:30 p.m. June 28. Applicants must be a registered voter or be able to register to vote. All applicants must also be a resident of Avon Township, which includes all or parts of Grayslake, Hainesville, Round Lake, Round Lake Beach, Round Lake Park, Round Lake Heights and Third Lake.

"As a board, we voted to collect applications from interested parties that live within the boundaries of the township and will be reviewing all applications and qualification so that we can find the best person for the job," said Larson.

According to the township website, the clerk's duties include: keeping township records; administering oaths of office and taking affidavits; offering free notary service; offering voter registration; and giving notice of all township meetings.
