'Color Aloft' Festival to Return in 2014

How many people attended this year's event?

If you attended the inaugural Color Aloft hot air balloon festival in August and thought, "I hope they do this again next year," then be prepared to cheer.

Grayslake Trustee Bruce Bassett announced at Tuesday night's village board meeting that planning is already underway for next year's Color Aloft festival. The event is slated for Aug. 23, 2014.

"It was really amazing to see how it came together and how the community responded," Bassett said of this year's event, which drew about 4,500 people, per a police department estimate. "It was great."

"The problems we had—and yes, there were problems—were problems of success," Bassett added. He said food booths ran out of food, there weren't quite enough parking spaces, and there was a traffic snarl at Route 83 and Center Street. "We will learn from that for next year."
