Democrats,Catholics Protest Outside Walsh Office

Group delivers letter decrying having a "deadbeat" dad as a representative of the state.

Members of a newly formed group, the Northern Illinois chapter of Progressive Democrats of America, together with Catholics United held a protest at Congressman's Joe Walsh's office Saturday, July 30 in Fox Lake.

About 25 people attended the protest.

"The purpose was to express our distaste with a deadbeat dad representing the 8th Congressional district," said group member Steve Williams of Lake Villa.

The Sun-Times reported that Walsh allegedly owes $117,000 in child support to his former wife for the care of their three children.

"The two protest groups were brought together by a Facebook message posted by a group member about having state representatives serve as role models for our children," Williams said. "This issue with Congressman Walsh is something that is a common concern for members of both groups."

The group delivered a signed letter explaining their concerns to Walsh's office.

According to Williams, Walsh's staff initially kept the doors locked but opened them once media such as the Daily Herald, WGN, and WABC arrived.

Walsh was not at the office at the time of the protest.

Patch was unable to reach Walsh for a responsel.

Again Lennie, I am not attacking, I am willing to answer questions from you as long as you do the same. I do not fear those that stay anonymous either. You are right, I do not get into the attacks, here. Ask away !
Sully August 02, 2011 at 03:28 PM
Lisa, Lennie, you are either willfully ignoring or you really don't get it. You can pontificate all you want and continue to say you won't respond to 'personal attacks', but you simply are not answering legitimate questions. And I, like Jim, have no intention of giving my real name. I do not wish for me or my family to be harassed. My false accusations have yet to be posted by you, and my tone has also gone down a bit. So I ask legitimate questions that you continue to ignore.
Sully August 02, 2011 at 03:33 PM
Oh, and Lisa- the tea party presents itself as a political party, so how do you talk about it without invoking politics? Many times I present facts from the tea party leadership (the Kochs, for example), so how am I the one scaring people? Maybe it's the tea party itself that scares them.
Brad Faxton August 02, 2011 at 03:44 PM
I wonder - is the LCTP a 501c3?
Sully August 02, 2011 at 04:06 PM
It's listed as a 501c4. From the website of tea party patriots- "Tea Party Patriots, Inc. operates as a social welfare organization organized under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to Tea Party Patriots, Inc. are not deductible as charitable contributions for income tax purposes. Tea Party Patriots, Inc. ("TPP") is a non-partisan, non-profit social welfare organization dedicated to furthering the common good and general welfare of the people of the United States. TPP furthers this goal by educating the public and promoting the principles of fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government and free markets. Tea Party Patriots has not endorsed candidates for public office."
Sully August 02, 2011 at 04:09 PM
In case Lisa wants to accuse me of lying- http://www.teapartypatriots.org/state/Illinois LCTP is a member of the tea party patriots.

Sully August 02, 2011 at 04:24 PM
Wow Brad, that looks kind of bad, doesn't it? What's this?- "PP leaders have used dodgy accounting tricks to avoid publicly disclosing financial information. They've refused to share this information with the group's members. Tea partiers who've tried to pierce the veil of secrecy have found themselves threatened with lawsuits or shut out of the organization entirely. And the group has tried to buy the silence of former employees and disillusioned board members, offering sums as high as $20,000 to sign confidentiality agreements. TPP has proven highly adept at raising money, and it has hired a team of high-priced PR consultants and GOP-connected direct-mail and telemarketing firms to give the group even more fundraising firepower. Yet it has failed to complete the simple bookkeeping chores required of a well-managed charitable organization. PP claims it is a 501(c)(4) entity. That means the group does not pay taxes, but donations to the group aren't tax-deductible. Yet despite raising millions of dollars since its founding in February 2009, TPP has not even applied to the IRS for such official status, according to a TPP spokesman. And the IRS confirms that it has not filed paperwork that would reveal basic information about its finances."
Brad Faxton August 02, 2011 at 04:25 PM
*GASP!*
Sully August 02, 2011 at 04:29 PM
And this?- "The group, which made a name for itself by calling for more government transparency, had tinkered with its filing date in order to avoid public disclosure as long as possible. As a result, it wasn't required to file a return until April 2011—for tax year 2009. I (Mother Jones reporter) even asked Mark Meckler, the group's chief financial officer and national coordinator, in person for a copy when he was speaking at Ralph Reed's Faith and Freedom Conference in DC in June. He promised that the return had been filed and that I could get a copy. So I emailed to follow up, and I waited. Still nothing. Eventually, I filed a complaint with the IRS, noting that the group wasn't complying with the law. That seems to have done the trick. Late last week, I got a copy of the return. Given that it contains information that is more than a year old, it wasn't especially interesting. It didn't cover, for instance, the period leading up to the midterm elections last fall, when TPP got an anonymous $1 million grant."
Brad Faxton August 02, 2011 at 04:29 PM
So....... if I were want to donate, the address and name I write/send my check isn't to TPP, it is to LCTP in RLB. http://lakecountyteaparty.com/donate/ Uhhh....
Sully August 02, 2011 at 04:30 PM
Lennie, it looks like you may want to be careful regarding with whom you associate.
LMJ August 02, 2011 at 05:05 PM
See, Jim, this is what you keep ignoring, the continued attacks and lack of civil discourse. (Sully and Brad) You see the attacks of this group does this: that group does this thing, oh and here is another group doing this, yet they are not the Lake County Tea Party. We could do that too! Anthony Weiner did this, Tim Gill funds this, Soros funds that, Wu did that, etc, etc, etc. It does nothing to fix D46. It does nothing in the cause of having a civil discussion. That is why there is no bridge to The Patch. If you wish to not talk to Lennie, then it is your choice. You know how to contact him if you change your mind.
Sully August 02, 2011 at 05:32 PM
Posting facts about the tea party patriots, of whom the Lake County tea party is an affiliate, is an attack? How so, Lisa?
Sully August 02, 2011 at 05:52 PM
Here is the point, Lisa. Your husband demands transparency and accountability of the school system ad nauseum, but as far as we can tell, he does not do the same for his political party. That is commonly referred to as hypocrisy. Lennie's been after D46 for what? Six years? Before Correll got here and long before the 2011 school board election. What is his endgame, Lisa? Simple question. Charter or choice schools? Is that it? Is that why he FOIAed the D46 yearly evaluations for the current superintendent? Simple question.
Softball Jim August 02, 2011 at 05:56 PM
Lisa and Lennie, There is a Bridge to cross, that is how this country was formed. Differing views combing together for the common good. What you may see as a personal attack or an attack on the LCTP, I see as information on the values of the Tea Party as a whole. They are simple getting a message out about the Tea Party antics and beliefs. Frankly those articles bring about good points, all the articles do. The also encourage debate amongst us. Gill, Wu, Weiner and many other politicians are wrong, corrupt and frankly driving our country into the ground. What this country can not have is dramatic views to the left or right. We must meet somewhere in the middle of the bridge. You as well as Pulley, Brad, Andrea and I can find idiot politicians on both sides of the aisle. You want to ask me questions I will give you an honest opinion.
Sully August 02, 2011 at 07:17 PM
Blago comes to mind as a particularly huge idiot! Wiener was pretty stupid too- male politicians have got to find a way to keep it in their pants.
Lennie Jarratt August 02, 2011 at 07:39 PM
@Jim, you are finally hitting upon the biggest lie about the tea party. We are not a political party. We are a grassroots organization that is run by individuals who choose how their local organization is run. Sully and others like to continue to repeat the lie that we are run top down, which is false and has been stated repeatedly. Becuase of this lie, you and others accept research about what other tea party groups do as an argument against your local tea party. There are even fake tea party groups out there whose mission is to destroy other tea party groups. I know you can find the LCTP linked on those as well. I don't control what other groups do just as you don't control what other people do as was pointed out earlier. Answering questions on here with those whose only goal is to attack is a waste of time for both of us. All the good that starts to come out of it will be interrupted and lost in the continued attacks.
Brad Faxton August 02, 2011 at 07:53 PM
So, the LCTP is a 501c4? What is the FIN?
Softball Jim August 02, 2011 at 07:58 PM
Oh, come on now Lennie, Sure I could buy that the Tea Party is a "Grass Roots" effort. However, I have had a hard time finding "Tea Party" Democrats in Washington or Springfield. If, what you truely say is correct, that the Lake County Tea Party is not affiliated with those people, and you do seem to not want to be lumped into that group, I would remove the links to the other Tea Party sites that go against your beliefs. Otherwise it appears you support all of the Tea Party Idea. If you do not support those ideas, I would suggest changing the name of the Lake County Tea Party to something else. This would avoid the confusion. Yes, I know the "Tea Party" is not an official Party in politics, however, The big Tea Party Players come from the Republican party, with support from this grass root effort. (Good, Bad or Indifferent) and those (lets call them Tea Party Republicans or TPR's) are the ones leaning to the far side of the bridge and causing a collapse. There has to be a balance, there has to be compromise and there has to be shared sacrifice. The TPR's are the ones attacking government employess, calling for less government control, and less entitilement programs. I think you would agree with me correct? Now where we differ in opinion is what to cut, what to regulate and what changes to programs there should be. Do I think they need to be changes, YES, ABSOLUTELY. Should they be eliminated? NO, Better control of the abuse would be better. Less Waste!
Softball Jim August 02, 2011 at 08:03 PM
I do believe you want some of those changes as well. Correct? As I know you are older than I, and with the potential for Social Security checks comming in when you turn either 62 or 67, do you want that money reduced that you have earned the right to? I know I do not want that. When I look at the potential for cuts to those on medicare or social security, it is really just another way of raising taxes on that group. They lose, and it could put some of them in the poor house. As my parents are both dependent on both of those programs, I do not want to see that happen. Lets find a way to eliminate the waste. Do we need 5 govenrment agencies overseeing the same process. No we do not. Lets be smart and move forward.
Softball Jim August 02, 2011 at 08:12 PM
Now onto D46, Is there issues, sure. Are they Major criminal offenses? I don't think so, but until the investigation is done, you or I will not know for sure. So lets let the chips fall where they may, pick up the pieces and move on. What D46 and the area it serves does not need, is more bad press, It does not need more political infighting. Everyone complains about the housing market in the area falling into the abyss, so why continue to jump off the ledge. It is not the BOE, that has cost people thier jobs, It is not the BOE that has cost people their homes. It was the drop in the economic outlook, that caused buisness to go under, and lay off people, It was the hit by Terrorist on the world that has caused layoffs and a drop in the market. It is big oil and energy that has continued to raise the cost of gas, while the economy has faltered. The more you spend in gas, the less you spend on clothing, food and houses. Economy goes down. What has the Big Three Oil companies made in the last 3 years? Something along the lines of 100 Trillion dollars. Yet you are paying over $4. at the pump today. Just does not seem right to keep blaming D46 for all the troubles in Grayslake and the area.
Sully August 02, 2011 at 08:17 PM
Maybe the tea party should take the word "party" out of it's name as well. But it sure looks political in nature to me. http://www.teapartytribune.com/ And Lennie, you continue to say I am attacking you, yet when I present links and ask questions, you only respond with the "vitriol and lies' bit. You have yet to answer a simple question.
Brad Faxton August 02, 2011 at 08:21 PM
And I'd love to know if the LCTP is a 501c4 NFP? What is the FIN?
Sully August 02, 2011 at 08:46 PM
From what I've seen, the Lake County tea party, as a member organization of the tea party patriots, is a 501c4. I don't know about the FIN. In all honesty, I'm not completely clear on how FIN really works.
Brad Faxton August 02, 2011 at 08:55 PM
Doing many searches and the ref'ing the article above, reveals the TPP haven't filed the right paperwork (yet) and their mandatory required published financials haven't been made available to the IRS. Certainly odd that LJ claims no affiliation with TPP. If checks are being written to LCTP and pocketed by *SOMEONE*, there has to be record of where the $ is going. *shrug*
Rich August 02, 2011 at 09:36 PM
Homer has read with some amusement, the comments on this article. I give credit to Sully, Softball and Brad for their taking the local tea party leadership to task. In the end, the tea party subscribes to circular logic. They enjoy not being accountable. When they say put the check register online and they will not ask for anything else, they then ask for everything else. When they say have an investigation, they are not satisfied with the results and want more investigations. When it is said they associate with other tea party groups with backers such as the Kock brothers or wealthy republican operatives, they say they are grass roots and do not associate with the other groups. But, we all know they back Walsh and they cannot hide from that simple fact. To endorse and support this deadbeat is enough to let Homer know that the tea party is just plain wrong. Wrong for D46, wrong for my village, wrong for my country.
Femia August 07, 2011 at 09:35 PM
Dear Mr. Walsh, this message is for you: please please do not, do not leave any messages in my answering machine. You are a despicable, disgusting human being or are you even a human being? I do not subscribe to you form of beliefs so please keep you dirty politics to yourself!
Sully August 07, 2011 at 10:27 PM
Dear Fernia, You will obey the mandates of the tea party as put forth by ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) and the Koch Brothers. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated into the collective conscious.* Your friend, Joe *special thanks to Star Trek, the Next Generation
