Do Grayslake Residents Want an Indoor Sports Dome?

The Belcher brothers are proposing a $4.3 million indoor sports dome near the College of Lake County. Patch wants to know how Grayslake residents feel.

Grayslake trustees recently heard a preliminary proposal from brothers Kevin and Gregory Belcher to bring a 180,000 square-foot indoor sports dome to the village, on the south side of Washington Street.

The Power Alleys Sports Dome would be used for youth baseball and adult softball, among other sports, and include a full-service restaurant and bar, a training facility and a pro shop, reported the Chicago Tribune.

Village Manager Mike Ellis told the Daily Herald the air-supported dome would be located on 10 acres of land near the College of Lake County where the Glunz family received permission to build a winery, which is no longer in the works.

The proposal has yet to come before the Zoning Board, but Grayslake village trustees were interested enough to request a concept review during the June 4 committee-of-the-whole meeting, according to the Tribune.

The Village of Rosemont has a 140,000 square-foot air-supported sports dome with a ceiling height of 75-feet called the Dome at the Ballpark.

While Grayslake village officials appear receptive to the idea of having a similar facility, Patch wants to know what residents think of the proposal.
