Government Shutdown Doesn't Stop the National Weather Service

The government agency is still updating its website and sharing weather-related updates on social media.

If you're worried about not being able to get your weather information from the National Weather Service during the federal government shutdown, don't be.

The National Weather Service is still open for business—sort of.

A disclaimer on the agency's website states that "due to the federal government shutdown, NOAA.gov and most associated websites are unavailable." However, it is also noted that "because the information this site provides is necessary to protect life and property, it will be updated and maintained during the federal government shutdown.

The National Weather Service Chicago Office shared a message on Facebook, stating that it they "remain dedicated to support our NWS mission: the protection of life and property."
