Grayslake, Libertyville Improve Emergency Response Agreement

The mutual aid agreement between the two villages will improve the response to accidents on Route 45 between Peterson and Jones Point Roads.

The and the Village of Libertyville are working together to ensure all areas are covered in the case of an emergency, without depleting resources at one single department.

Libertyville recently amended its intergovernmental agreement with Grayslake to improve the response to accidents that occur on Route 45 between Peterson and Jones Point Roads. Grayslake's Fire Protection Board passed that agreement in May.

"The need to improve emergency responses on Route 45 between Peterson Road and Jones Point Road has become a priority with the completion of road work on Route 45," according to Libertyville village board documents. "The now limited access highway creates a problem when responding to motor vehicle accidents for each department."

Per the amended mutual aid agreement, both departments will send one emergency vehicle — an ambulance or fire engine — to the scene of accidents on Route 45 between Peterson and Jones Point.

"It's one less piece of apparatus that department has to dedicate to that specific call for each community," said Grayslake Fire Chief John Christian. "This really increases the response level, but it reduces the amount of staff we have to send out."

"Essentially we are sharing resources and not depleting either of the communities on that single call," Christian said. "This is truly an enhancement for both of our communities."
