Grayslake Lifts Water Restrictions

The village pump station is operational again as of Tuesday afternoon, so restrictions on outdoor water use have been lifted.

Water and power are two things most people take for granted until they are missing. The massive storm July 11 shut down both for many residents and businesses in Grayslake.

When electricity went out for the village’s main pump station facility for all the water to go throughout town, Grayslake officials imposed a water restriction, asking residents not to use outdoor water for their lawns or to wash cars in order to conserve the limited water supplies for indoor use.

“We were being careful in order to conserve the available water supplies,” said Derek Soderholm, assistant village manager.

He said ComEd worked on Monday and Tuesday morning to get power back to the main pump station facility.

“The system is operating at normal levels. People can go back to their normal usage,” Soderholm said. “The power is back on.”

The power is not back on, however, for staff at the Grayslake Village Hall and for many residents and businesses. Village Hall is still without power as of 3 p.m. Tuesday.

“It’s hot, and we have no Internet access,” Soderholm said. “But we’re still working to help the residents who need assistance.”

He said the Public Works Department crews have been working at full force to clear downed tree limbs from the parkways. He said that if tree limbs fall into the public parkways, then residents can drag the limbs to the curb for pickup.

“If a whole tree falls entirely on private property, however, then that would be the homeowner’s responsibility,” Soderholm said.
