Jeff Werfel Will Run For Lake County District 6 Slot

Candidate says new, open seat provides voters with opportunity.

Grayslake resident and three-term Village Trustee Jeff Werfel announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination to represent the newly drawn Lake County Board District 6.

The new County Board District 6 is primarily comprised of incorporated and unincorporated areas of Grayslake, Hainesville, Round Lake Beach and Round Lake Park.

“I have represented the majority of this new district as an elected official for years and have been actively involved with the rest of it through my work in the office of the local Illinois State Representative. I look forward to continuing to work on behalf of the people of the new 6th District if I’m elected as their county board member,” Werfel said.

Werfel stressed the need for county government to be as innovative and cost-effective as possible in the delivery of the services for which it is responsible.

“As a county board member I will focus on keeping county government taxes low while maintaining high service levels for our families and businesses. In Grayslake, we have consistently accomplished balanced village budgets while maintaining high resident service levels, low taxes, a high bond rating and no debt. We’ve done this by constantly addressing and improving the way we deliver village services to continuously make them more cost-efficient over time,” said Werfel.

Werfel added, “These are very tough economic times. Every single day, people in the new District 6 are working to stretch their household dollars further than they did the day before. Area businesses are doing the same to keep their doors open. All of us as taxpayers, whether Republican, Democrat, or Independent, should expect the same fiscal management approach from the county and other levels of government. There is always room for improvement.”

“My other priorities include supporting a pro-growth economic environment to attract business development and create jobs, maintaining the county’s AAA bond rating, and continuing to preserve and restore Lake County’s remaining open space,” Werfel added.

Werfel has been a Trustee for more than eight years and is currently a Legislative Aide to Illinois State Representative Sandy Cole of the 62nd District (Grayslake). He possesses more than 20 years of private business experience as a marketing manager and management consultant specializing in organizational change and business process reengineering.

Along with being a Village Trustee, Werfel is also on the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency Board of Directors as an Alternate Director (2003 - present). He has been on the Liberty Prairie Conservancy Board, a Lake County environmental land trust, since 2003. He is a member of the Grayslake Chamber of Commerce and the Grayslake Historical Society.

Werfel, 48, has a bachelor's degree in government from Georgetown University and a Masters in business administration from Loyola University. Married for 16 years, he has lived in Grayslake since 1998 with his wife and two children, including a daughter beginning her first year of high school at
