Lake County Board Approves New District Map

The new map reduces the size of the board from 23 to 21 members.

Lake County Board approved a new map Tuesday that reduces the size of the board from 23 to 21 members, according to a Lake County Government news release.

The map will take effect in December 2012, when the terms of office for current members expire and new board members are elected.

County boards are required to redraw district lines so that each district has equal population, according to federal and state laws. The latest shows that Lake County’s population grew by 9.2 percent, with the most growth occurring in the northern and western district.

The redistricting gained unanimous support from the Lake County Reapportionment Committee in early June. At that time Lake County Board Chairman David Stolman said the map was fair. However, .

According to the news release, the map reflects new boundaries for 21 districts, with each district having a target population of 33,498.
