Library Program Focuses on Local Food

The Green Series: 20% Local Food by 2020 will be held on Aug. 21 at the Grayslake Area Public Library.

Are you interested in learning more about local food and how local produce can generate economic growth in a community?

If so, you may want to check out a program at the Grayslake Public Library from 7 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 21 titled: "The Green Series: 20% Local Food by 2020." The 2007 Illinois Local Food, Farms and Jobs Act calls for a statewide 20 percent procurement goal of local food by the year 2020, according to the Grayslake Area Public Library

The seminar will be presented by Gianna Fazioli, the Local Foods Coordinator at College of Lake County and a part-time faculty for the Horticulture Department.

The seminar at the library will touch on new farmer training programs offered at the College of Lake County. The programs teach participants how local produce can revitalize and generate economic prosperity in a community.

Further topics that will be touched on include CLC’s burgeoning campus farm, farm-to-table connection, and season extension techniques.

The Grayslake Public Library website has more information on registering for this program.
