March 2012 Primary: Pat Carey Wins Democratic Contest for County Board District 6

Pat Carey, former Grayslake Mayor and current Lake County Board member, easily won the Democratic contest for the redrawn Lake County Board District 6. She will now face Grayslake Trustee Jeff Werfel in the November election.

Thanks to her victory in the Primary Election Tuesday night, former Grayslake Mayor Pat Carey, a Democrat, will now face Republican Jeff Werfel, current Grayslake trustee, in the General Election for the redrawn District 6 seat on the Lake County Board.

Carey easily defeated Eric Daniel Lake in the Primary contest for District 6, winning all but 179 votes of the 1,237 votes cast. She took nearly 86% of the votes, compared to Lake's 14%.

Lake had not participated in several events during the election season, and had not set up a campaign website. He had a criminal past involving a former Grayslake mayor, according to the Daily Herald. In 2006, Lake was sentenced to 18 months of probation after pleading guilty to harassing then-mayor Tim Perry, the Herald reported.

Carey had said little about competing with Lake during this campaign for the Lake County Board District 6, saying that she wanted to focus on her own record and qualifications. Apparently, voters responded to that.

With all 26 Precincts reporting, the Lake County Clerk's website reported:   PercentVotes Pat Carey (DEM) 85.53% 1,058 Eric Daniel Lake (DEM) 14.47% 179       1,237

The Lake County Board approved a district remapping in 2011 reducing the number of Lake County Board members from 23 to 21. This remapping created District 6, which includes all or portions of Grayslake, Hainesville, Round Lake Beach and Round Lake Park.
