Register Now for December Programs at Grayslake Public Library

December is quickly approaching and the Grayslake Public Library has plenty of programs to get you and your children out of the house and busy once the weather starts to get cold. 

The following programs are free and require registration, by phone, in person, or online at www.grayslake.info unless otherwise noted.  Out-of-district card holders may register, when space is available, starting 2 weeks before any program.

Youth Programs  

Homeschooler Support Group: “Homeschooling With A Touch Of Humor," Monday, December 2 at 7:00 pm

  • Join us as we enjoy a little humor while we recognize the need for homeschoolers to take time to recharge their batteries.  This program is part of the Karing 4 Kids Series, and designed for parents who homeschool their children.  Registration is preferred. 
Annual National Geographic Bee, Tuesday, December 10 at 10:00 am
  • All Lake County Area Homeschoolers are invited to participate in the annual National Geographic Bee held at the Grayslake Area Public Library.  Here’s your chance to expand, test and show what you know when it comes to world geography.  Lake County Homeschool students in grades four through eight are eligible for this entertaining and challenging test of geographic knowledge.  Register by Sunday, December 1 by calling the Youth Services Department or by stopping by the youth Service Desk.
The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Sunday, December 15 at 2:00 pm
  • Join us a master puppeteer Mark Nichols brings to life Beatrix Potter’s classic tale of a mischievous bunny, the Tale of Peter Rabbit.  This is a free family event.  Seating is limited and tickets are required.

2013 Gingerbread House Contest

  • Hansel and Gretel are waiting for you to enter your gingerbread house in the 2013 Grayslake Area Public Library Gingerbread House contest for children.  Houses should be made out of edible material by children 8 to 13 years old.  Entries may be dropped off starting Sunday, December 8 at the Youth Services Desk.  Entry deadline is Thursday, December 12 at 5 pm with judging and viewing to be held through Wednesday, December 18.  Items must be picked up by December 20 at 5 pm.  Small prizes will be awarded.

 Adult Programs 

Teen Advisory Group (TAG), Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm
  • Join other teens in Teen Advisory.  Talk about current topics and help decide future library programs!  Door prizes, snacks, and fun at every meeting!  Ongoing participation can count towards leadership experience.  Everyone is welcome!  Grades 7-12.

Cheers to Vegan Sweets:  Local Author Kelly Peloza, Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm

  • Do you want to make vegan versions of your favorite holiday cookies, cupcakes, and candies?  Join local author Kelly Peloza and learn to bake favorite holiday treats without eggs or dairy.  Kelly will cover Vegan Baking 101, offer replacements for non-vegan ingredients, and discuss recipes and gift ideas.  Desserts will be available to sample and signed copies of Cheers to Vegan Sweets, Peloza’s newest cookbook will be on hand for purchase.

Yoga: Soothing Poses for Stress Free Holidays, Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at 7:00 pm

  • Stay relaxed during the hustle and bustle of the holidays.  Learn how to calm your nervous system and find joy in the present moment.  These poses will help you clear your mind of other distractions and worries, and access a sense of peace and well-being.  Allison Wilmes will lead this wonderful yoga program.

Writers Group, Monday, December 16, 2013, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm

  • Connect with other writers at our monthly meetings.  This is a Drop In, no registration is required
