Trustees: We Support Private-Sector Business Recruitment Initiative

"This is going to be the biggest thing we can do for this town, with the possible exception of 53. I am in favor," said Trustee Bruce Bassett.

Grayslake trustees agreed Tuesday night to support a new private-sector business recruitment effort that will focus on bringing new businesses to large, open areas like the Central Range.

Mayor Rhett Taylor explained that the Economic Development Commission has been looking at how the private sector could help drive business and recommended forming the private-sector organization. The formation of the organization would include the development of a strategic plan, selection of a board of directors and the hiring of an executive director to lead the organization.

The non-profit organization would also create bylaws and set a budget.

"I'm very much in favor," said Trustee Amy Edwards. She said with the current economic times, the village needs to bring in more tax dollars. "I just think it's time to do it. We want to be ahead of the curve."

Trustee Bruce Bassett said Grayslake is blessed with a lot of open land, like the Central Range and the Cornerstone development.

"The goal is to get people to develop there … to bring jobs (and) to bring tax dollars to Grayslake," said Bassett. "Grayslake is really a jewel in terms of the quality of the land that is available."

"I am looking forward to getting this going," said Bassett. "This is going to be the biggest thing we can do for this town, with the possible exception of 53. I am in favor."
