Upcoming Grayslake Historical Society Programs On Trains, Girl Scouting, Farming And More

Upcoming programs at the Grayslake Heritage Center bring history to life.

The Grayslake Heritage Center has a full slate of programs in the next few months featuring trains, Girl Scouting, It's A Wonderful Life memorabilia and more. Programs will be held at the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum, 164 Hawley Street.

Oct. 12, 7:30 p.m. - Trains of Grayslake and Lake County: A Brief History

Terry Norton, Grayslake Historical Society board member, will talk about how the railroads influenced the growth of Grayslake and the surrounding area.  The program is free; refreshments will be served.

Oct. 15, 10 a.m. - Girl Scouts Round-Table

Th Grayslake Historical Society will host a round-table discussion and reminisce about the Girl Scouts organization as a preview to the 100th anniversary next year of Girl Scouting in the United States. The Grayslake Heritage Museum will have a Girl Scout display next year marking the centennial anniversary. Those attending the round-table session are encouraged to bring Girl Scout memorabilia and talk about their experiences in the Girl Scout program. Light refreshments will be served.

Oct. 29 - Leave Nothing On The Field

Catch a last look at the sports exhibition in the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum, Leave Nothing on the Field.

Nov. 9, 7:30 p.m. - Behind The Bomb

Matthew Teubert, a student at Grayslake North High School, will present his award-winning entry in the 2011 National History Day competition titled Behind the Bomb, an exploration of the Manhattan Project.

Nov. 12, 10 a.m. - Life On The Farm

Reminisce about life on the farm at the Grayslake Heritage Center.

Nov. 25, 5-8 p.m. - It's A Wonderful Life

Come see a special exhibition of memorabilia from the beloved film, It's A Wonderful Life. Resident Richard Goodson will share items from his extensive personal collection in the exhibit that runs through Dec. 30.

Dec. 11, 2-4 p.m. - Holiday Open House

The Grayslake Historical Society will host an open house filled with all of the spirit of the season. There will be a vintage sleigh, holiday music, refreshments and pictures with Santa.
