Village Board Wrap Up: Wind Turbine, Watershed Plan And More

Several actions were approved by the Grayslake Village Board last night including approving a 45-foot wind turbine at Prairie Crossing. Two eighth-grade students proposed the idea and secured a $13,770 grant for the project.

Among other items, the village board on Tuesday also approved the following:

  • A special use permit was granted to Prairie Crossing Charter School for construction of a 45-foot high wind turbine in the Village Green area of Prairie Crossing. The original request was made by two charter school eighth-graders as part of an environmental project. The students, Nathan Husemoller and Yvan Soetarman, even obtained a $13,770 grant for the project from the supplier of the turbine.
  • The board accepted the dedication of public improvements serving the new Grayslake Business Park on the west side of Route 83, south of the Metra crossing. As a result, subdivision security will be reduced to five percent of the original amount for a period of one year. FedEx is the first occupant of the new business park. A ribbon-cutting for the facility has been scheduled for Oct. 29.
  • The board authorized the rezoning of 460 N. Barron Blvd. from R2 Residential to CT Commercial Transition to coincide with the village’s long-term effort to rezone the Route 83 corridor from residential to commercial, which is consistent with the comprehensive plan.
  • The board passed a resolution approving the Bull Creek-Bull’s Brook Watershed Plan, which will allow the village to apply for future grants for areas within the watershed such as the new fairgrounds site and portions of Prairie Crossing. Adoption of this resolution has no fiscal impact on the village.
  • The board waived $70.30 permit fee for Living Waters Church for the installation of a back-up generator at their facility at 525 Atkinson Rd.
