Original story: All after-school activities have been canceled for today, Sept. 10, at Grayslake Middle School, Frederick School and the Park Campus.

The Champions childcare program will be open, Community Consolidated School District 46 posted on its website

The temperature in Grayslake as of 10:48 a.m. was already 88 degrees, with a forecast high of 96.

Meadowview and Woodview, which were closed for a day during the last week of August due to the heat, remain open. The district issued this statement on its website regarding the heat:

"The weather patterns are not doing us any favors! Making the decision to close or dismiss early is based on a lot of information -- the weather forecasts (often there are several, none of which agree), the temperature trends that we see in the buildings, and of course the outside temperatures and humidity levels. As we compared the trends from last week to this week, the cumulative effect for the last two days were lower than last week, thus the decision to hold school at Meadowview and Woodview today. We will be monitoring the temperatures over the next few hours and make a decision about tomorrow. While the temperature outside could be lower tomorrow than today, we still have to consider the temperature build-up on the inside. Our brick exteriors act as insulation to keep the warm temperatures in. Please watch our website for more information."

The forecast high for Wednesday is 85 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
