Area Marching Bands Perform Together For Leukemia, Lymphoma Fundraiser Sept. 14

Hear rousing music by area marching bands and contribute to a District 50 fundraising event for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The cause is inspired by Micah, a boy who is battling leukemia.

Let the music begin!

's Middle School Marching Wildcats band will join forces with the Warren Township High School Marching Blue Devils and the Viking Middle School band to perform their marching routine in exhibition style at 7 p.m., Sept. 14 at the Warren Township High School Stadium O'Plaine campus, 500 N. O'Plaine Road, Gurnee.

Students are asking for cash donations to literally "Fill the Drums" to help raise funds in honor of Micah Silasiri, the son of Woodland staff members James and Jennifer Silasiri, who has been battling leukemia since his diagnosis last fall.

"This year's show is all for Team Micah," said Director Elise Matusek. "After hearing the sad news about Micah, we sprung into action and decided we needed to have this event be all about him and his family."

All proceeds from this event will donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Micah's name.

This annual exhibition began in 2005 following Hurricane Katrina. Each year, Gurnee's marching bands come together to perform for friends, families and the community.

Woodland Marching Wildcats are directed by Elise Matusek, Carolyn Awe and Greg Zalapi. For more information please contact Elise Matusek at (847) 856-3670.

Admission is free to attend the event.
